MEET JUDGE TREY HAIK
Born and raised in New Iberia, Judge Trey Haik has deep roots in our community. After graduating from Catholic High School in 1990, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in History from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL Lafayette) in 1995.
Judge Haik went on to attend Tulane University School of Law, graduating in 1998 with both his Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Environmental Law. During his time at Tulane, he gained valuable experience as an intern for U.S. District Judge Thomas Porteus.
After law school, Judge Haik served as a law clerk for Judge Henry Sullivan in the 24th JDC before returning home to New Iberia to join his family’s law firm, Haik, Minvielle, Grubbs & D’Albor LLP.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Over his 20-year career in private practice, Judge Haik handled a diverse range of legal matters, including:
- Worker’s compensation cases
- Personal injury litigation (both plaintiff and defense)
- Property and casualty litigation
- Domestic and divorce matters
- Wills and successions
- Business law and contracts
Judge Haik also served as the New Iberia City Attorney, addressing numerous municipal law issues and overseeing fire and police civil service hearings. His broad legal background has given him extensive experience in both bench and jury trials in State Court.
JUDICIAL SERVICE
In 2014, the citizens of New Iberia elected Trey Haik as their City Judge, choosing him from a field of five candidates in a runoff election. As City Judge, he presides over:
- Civil claims up to $30,000
- Misdemeanor criminal offenses
- Juvenile delinquency cases
His decade on the bench has earned him the respect of attorneys, litigants, and the community for his fair-minded approach to justice and his commitment to the rule of law.
LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
Judge Haik’s dedication extends beyond the courtroom. He has taken on numerous leadership roles:
- Chairman of the 16th JDC Children’s Youth and Planning Board (2016-Present)
- President of the Louisiana City Judge’s Association (2023)
- Vice President of the Louisiana Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges
- Ad Hoc Judge of the Chitimacha Tribal Court
He was instrumental in establishing the Acadiana Regional Juvenile Justice District, which serves nine parishes by providing housing, medical care, education, and rehabilitation services to juvenile offenders.
PERSONAL LIFE
Judge Haik is a devoted family man, married to Jeanne Arceneaux Haik for 28 years. They have two sons, Evan and Elliot, both currently attending LSU.
As an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia, Judge Haik serves as a lector and is a Core Team Member of the Sister Katherine Drexel Coalition, which organizes ACTS Men’s & Women’s Retreats for five Catholic Churches in Iberia Parish.
